Righetti High School’s ASTRA Club (Ability, Service, Training, Responsibility, Achievement) recently completed their Spring Children’s Book Drive to promote literacy.

They collected more than 2,000 children’s books and plan to give them away to various schools and during community events throughout the year.

“Chairing the Spring Book Drive was an amazing experience,” said ASTRA member Calista Freeland. “Growing up, I received free books from Altrusa at various events. It was such a wonderful opportunity to give back to ASTRA and Altrusa in the same way they encouraged my love of reading.”

“We appreciate the tremendous support we received from the Righetti staff and student body,’’ said ASTRA Club Advisor Dayna DeBernardi-Watson. “We look forward to giving away all those wonderful books!.’’

Books were collected April 4th - April 14th during a 4th period class competition. The class that brought in the most books was rewarded with a pizza party. The second-place class earned a donut party. The winners were:

1st place - Ms. Tuttle’s class 2nd place - Ms. Dolan’s class
