PVHS Celebrates AVID Signing Day

PVHS AVID Signing Day

May 4, 2022

Nearly 50 PVHS seniors signed a contract to attend their chosen college with “determination and perseverance” during AVID Signing Day at the Panther campus on April 29.

AVID, which stands for Achievement Via Individual Determination, is a program designed to help students develop the skills they are going to need to be successful at the next level. The nationwide program places special emphasis on growing writing, critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading skills.

“I remember the first AVID signing day as a freshmen and I was excited for it to be my turn one day. It was a surreal experience and it felt amazing that four years of hard work paid off. It felt very special to share it with my peers.” – Nadine Virto, UC Santa Cruz, Feminist Studies

“After four years, it finally felt like the hard work paid off. Seeing the supportive faces of my peers reassured me that I was making the right decision.” – Angel Vasquez, Cal Poly SLO, Civil Engineering

“It has been an honor to be a part of these students’ educational journey. The AVID program is very demanding and these students have worked very hard, in the middle of a pandemic, to get to signing day. The AVID program is very proud of the AVID class of 2022 and wishes them the best in their next adventure.” – Kristina Sewell, Senior AVID Advisor
