SMJUHSD's senior Clap Out even took place last Friday when 50 seniors from SMHS, ERHS, and PVHS walked the halls of their former junior high schools, greeted by cheers, applause, and excitement from current junior high students.
The event provided younger students with a powerful glimpse into their future, as they saw firsthand the accomplishments that await them as they prepare to enter high school.
The Senior Clap Out is designed to motivate and inspire students by connecting them with graduates who once stood in their shoes. By revisiting their former campuses, seniors reflect on how far they have come, while also encouraging younger students to stay focused on their academic journeys. A big thank you to the college and career center staff for supporting the coordination of this event.
"Our students don't always get to see how valuable their experiences are for younger generations. This event allows our seniors to inspire younger generations, and, at the same time, it gives our incoming students hope for their own future."- Victoria Lopez, High School Liaison.
"Going to my old schools gave me nostalgia and it was great seeing younger kids striving for the current position that we're in and hopefully giving them inspiration to continue their studies. It was also great seeing past teachers and staff demonstrating how far we've came due to their incredible support." - Genaro Garcia Cruz, Santa Maria High School 12th grade.
"It was a wonderful experience reminiscing the old times. I graduated from Tommie Kunst Junior High School, and I got to see my former teachers and my little sister. It was nice showing the younger generations that if you work hard, you can pursue your dreams and soon enough return to the junior high school hallways like I did." - Oscar Ramirez Garcia, Pioneer Valley High School, 12th grade.
After graduation Oscar will be enlisting in the United States Marines in hopes of becoming an electronic maintenance technician.
