Santa Maria High School kicked off the 2026–2027 school year with an unforgettable Welcome Back Rally on Friday, August 21. The rally brought Saints students and staff together for an afternoon filled with music, performances, school spirit, games, and plenty of excitement for the year ahead.
The Saints Band set the tone from the moment the rally began, playing loud and proud and filling the gym with energy. ASB officers then welcomed the student body, introduced themselves, and gave a special introduction to SMHS’s new principal, Mr. Stockton. Addressing the crowd, Mr. Stockton shared how excited and honored he is to be a Saint and expressed his enthusiasm for the school year.
The excitement continued with an energetic performance by the Saints Cheer Squad, who rocked the house and had the crowd cheering. Fall sports captains were then introduced and took the opportunity to invite students and staff to come out and support their teams at upcoming home games.
Next, SMHS’s award-winning Ballet Folklórico took the floor and wowed the crowd with an incredible performance showcasing their talent and cultural pride. The afternoon continued with ASB-led crowd games. Crowd favorites such as Musical Chairs and Balloon Popping once again proved that they never fail to get students involved. This year, ASB added two new games, Wig Snatching and Bubble Wrestling and both quickly became hits with the crowd, bringing plenty of laughter and excitement to the rally.
Of course, no SMHS rally would be complete without ending with the school’s legendary spirit chant: “BOOMBA-HAY!” This year, the seniors reclaimed the Spirit Trophy after delivering the loudest Boomba-Hay chant of the rally!
ASB Officer Camila summed up the excitement of the day perfectly: “This was awesome! I’m excited for this year!”
Activities Director Adrian Salazar shared his pride in the student body: “I’m so proud of our SMHS students! Both rallies were exciting and had a lot of participation. I’m especially proud of our returning ASB students and our new ASB students who stepped up and helped make these rallies such a success.”
