More than 400 runners from numerous high schools competed in the First Annual Central Coast Cross Country Invitational at Los Flores Ranch Park last weekend.
The event was hosted by the Santa Maria High School (SMHS) Cross Country Program, led by Antonio Canongo, Saint Cross Country Coach and Math Teacher.
“This is the first time we have had this type of event in SMHS history,’’ Canongo added. “It was a true cross-country experience.’’
The races included teams from JV Girls, JV Boys, Varsity Girls, and Varsity Boys. Each race was a 5K with moderate hills and flat surfaces.
The Canongo family treated everyone to pizzas, making sure all the runners, volunteers, and coaches were happily fed!
