Santa Maria High School’s Welcome Back Rally

Santa Maria High School’s Welcome Back Rally brought out the School Spirit for more than 3,400 students on Friday, Aug. 22nd.
The two rallies, which were hosted by ASB, packed the gym.

The students were decked out in their class colors—seniors in Hawaiian colors, juniors in blue, sophomores in yellow, and freshmen in green.

The rally opened with a high-energy performance by the Saints Band and Color Guard, immediately setting the tone for an exciting event. The ASB officers were introduced and took the stage to emcee the program, keeping the crowd engaged throughout.
Next, the spotlight turned to the fall sports teams, as team captains were introduced to loud cheers from their classmates. Pep performances followed, with the Cheer Squad electrifying the crowd and the Ballet Folklórico group showcasing a vibrant cultural performance, both earning huge applause.

But the rally wouldn’t be complete without games, and this year’s activities brought out the competitive spirit, according to Saint Activity Director Adrian Salazar.

“The highlight was an intense round of musical chairs, which had the entire gym on its feet. In the final moments, a senior and a freshman went head-to-head, with the freshman surprising the crowd by claiming victory and the bragging rights,’’ Mr. Salazar said.
By the end, the mix of introductions, performances, and games created a thrilling rally that set the tone for a spirited and successful school year ahead, Mr. Salazar added.

“I was so shocked that I actually won! This rally was the most fun I’ve ever been a part of,” said Viri Ortiz, smiling after the musical chairs victory.

“Seeing everyone come together with so much spirit makes all the hard work worth it. This is exactly how we want to start the year,” said Mari Reyes, ASB President.

The celebrations wrapped up a spirited week of dress-up days and class pride.
