About 15 incoming Santa Maria Joint Union High School District freshman spent some time “Rocketing into High School” on July 30-31.
The students, who will soon attend SMHS, ERHS and PVHS, explored the wonders of science by building their rockets and then launching them off at the Pioneer Valley campus near the baseball fields.
The ongoing program, which is staffed by SMJUHSD Science Teachers and a few from SMBSD, is designed to get students interested in science as they begin their high school years.
“The value of Rocketing into High School is that students get to meet their teachers, they get familiar with the big campus, they get their brains engaged, and they get to meet new people,’’ said Panther Science Teacher Riccardo Magni.
All SMJUHSD students return to their high school campuses August 13th.
