The Human Resources Department supports the district by hiring, developing, and retaining highly qualified employees.

Santa Maria Joint Union High School District employs two classifications of employees:

Certificated Employees hold positions that require a specific authorization, credential, permit, certificate, or waiver depending on the assignment. These positions are typically related to instruction (i.e., teachers, counselors, administrators, psychologists, etc.).
Classified Employees hold positions that do not require a specific authorization, credential, permit, certificate, or waiver. These positions may be either instructional or non-instructional (i.e., clerical, custodial, maintenance, food service, business, instructional support, technology, etc.).

Benefits

Benefits provided by the District for its employees include medical, dental, vision, group term life insurance, and long-term disability insurance. Other optional policies are available from various Insurance Company vendors, at employee cost.

You can also log into your Employee Navigator account to access information about the benefits you've selected or make changes. Please note, to make changes outside of the Open Enrollment period you must have a Qualifying Life Event (QLEs include marriage, birth of a child, or loss of coverage), and you must make your change within 30 days of your QLE. You must provide supporting documentation to prove you've had a QLE (i.e., birth certificate for a newborn, marriage certificate to add a new spouse, or letter with information about loss of coverage).

Workplace Violence Prevention

SMJUHSD's Workplace Violence Prevention Plan has been developed to address hazards associated with workplace violence. The safety of each employee while in the performance of their work activities is a top priority of SMJUHSD. All employees share responsibility for promoting a safe working environment. Through the implementation of this Workplace Violence Prevention Plan, SMJUHSD seeks to promote a safe, respectful, and non-threatening work environment for all employees, students, and members of the public.

State law requires employers to establish, implement, and maintain a Workplace Violence Prevention Plan (WVPP) and violent incident log, provide training to employees on WVPP, and maintain certain associated records. SMJUHSD has worked within state guidelines to develop a WVPP and provide annual training to staff. WVPP reporting is done at the work site level.
